JACOP, Japanese Consortium of Prion Disease (natural history study)

JACOP is a Japanese clinical research consortium for prion disease, with a steering committee chaired by Hidehiro Mizusawa of the National Center of Neurology and Psychiatry (NCNP) and a secretariat at NCNP Hospital in Kodaira, Tokyo. Its main activity is a natural history study of prion disease, meant to describe how the disease progresses so that future treatment trials have something to be compared with, and to help find suitable people when a trial starts. Since April 2017 the study has been run together with the national surveillance programme funded by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW), and consent for both is obtained at the same time. One search excerpt reports 2,456 cumulative registrations by March 2025, which has not been checked against the report itself.
