The Generative Brain

Funders and foundations

Prion disease research is funded by a mix of public programmes, foundations and companies. The PRiSM trial is funded by NIH NeuroNEXT, the Prion Alliance pays participant travel, and the CJD Foundation funds preclinical grants such as a 2025 award to Gate Bioscience.

Different funders support different stages. The PRiSM siRNA trial is funded by NIH NeuroNEXT, and donations to the Prion Alliance cover participant travel. The CJD Foundation funds earlier work, including a 2025 grant to Gate Bioscience, in collaboration with the Broad Institute, to test whether an oral PrP-lowering compound extends survival in prion-infected mice. Companies carry the Ionis and Regeneron programs.

What is known is limited. No program has human safety and efficacy data, and the Ionis trial has said no public results before 2027. Gaps and timing are covered in gaps and the grant calendar, and how to give lists routes for donors. See also partners, AI and insurers.
