This page records published dates for prion disease research funding calls. It covers one funder in detail, because it is the only prion-specific grant call with dates found in public pages. Dates change, so check the funder’s own page before acting.
What are the CJD Foundation’s dates for 2026 to 2027?
The Foundation’s researchers page gives these dates for the research grant call:
| Step | Date |
|---|---|
| Letter of intent due | 16 July 2026 |
| Invitation to submit a full application | By 30 September 2026 |
| Full application due, if invited | 30 October 2026 |
| Award notification | 15 January 2027 |
| Awards announced | By 27 January 2027 |
Grants are one year, up to USD 50,000, or two years, up to USD 100,000. Projects must relate to human prion diseases. One-year grants report at 12 and 18 months, and two-year grants at 18 and 24 months.
The fellowship call for the same period offers up to USD 100,000 for one year, with up to one award. Applications were due 30 October 2026, and notification is by 15 January 2027. Training is expected to start on 1 July 2027. Fellowships are open to post-doctoral researchers or early-career healthcare professionals working under a senior supervisor, and the training must relate to human prion disease.
When is the next window?
The pages read do not state when the 2027 to 2028 call will open. The previous cycle announced ten awards, eight grants and two fellowships, on 28 January 2026, so a similar pattern is possible but is not confirmed. The Foundation says its research grant programme has awarded more than USD 6 million to date.
What about other funders?
The Foundation’s announcement says its awards are funded by donations, by Strides for CJD fundraising and by memorial grants from families. The pages read give no application dates for memorial grants. They direct readers to the Foundation’s help email address and phone line.
No dated, prion-specific call from a government agency or another foundation was found while preparing this page. That does not show that none exists. General neurodegeneration and rare disease calls, which sometimes accept prion projects, were not checked.
Where to go next
The funders overview and the gaps page describe who funds what. The how to give page is for donors, and the funding programmes list describes programmes in the Atlas.
